Like a tree recovers after a fire, a relationship can develop new buds that develop into strong branches.

Healing involves addressing issues, forgiving and finding new ways to strengthen the relationship together.

And like a tree, healing in a relationship is about growing and changing to make the relationship stronger and more resilient when difficult times occur again.

Reminders about growth and self care

You are allowed to take care of yourself and be your priority.

You don't have to wait until you are struggling , exhausted or burnt out to attend to your well-being. Self-care is a prevention strategy, not a crisis response.

Sometimes you can play a role in your own suffering by standing by waiting for other people to change, instead of being accountable and deciding what you will no longer tolerate. Remember that you have to be an active participant in creating the change you seek in life.

**Pick the people who give you energy wisely.

Healing often comes with challenges. Keep pushing forward anyway.

Growth requires us to leave something behind.

Progress is the result of consistency.

Almost all the advice that doctors like myself give their patients involve doing things in isolation.

We tell them to change their diet, go to the gym, take this or that medication.

We are trained to view the sick as individuals, rather than part of the collective whole.

But humans are herd animals. We do better in groups.

Could it be that we also heal better in groups?

Healing

We are never fully healed as people because healing is not a destination, there is no finish line waiting to be approached as we navigate certain seasons in life. Healing is a process and a journey. We learn about our patterns, our needs and even our dislikes when we are relationally bonded to others.

Healing requires both self-care and community care.

When we are interdependent , we acknowledge that two people are bringing their full selves into the relationship . and for it to thrive we need to compromise and value the needs of each other , rather than placing our needs on a pedestal.

The process of healing is a natural ebbing and flowing of ups and downs, griefs and gratitude, joy and sorrow and learning and unlearning.

Don't be afraid to take a chance on yourself, try new things, make new friends, or find a partner, because you are so fixated on healing. Remember that healing happens best in the community.

Healing happens when we give ourselves permission to experience life and learn lessons along the way. It is important that you find a way to honor the fact that you are human and not an emotionless robot or machine.

I understand it's hard to live in a space where your emotions are heavy and you are tired of grieving, crying and being triggered, but I need you to trust that your feelings do not define the totality of your life. What you feel in a moment is fleeting.

It is not forever. Find the courage to release the idea that hardships are what you are destined for and learn to make space for joy, gratitude and love as a remedy for healing.

Healing does not stop pain from existing, but it does give us the tolerance to manage our pain when we have the tools needed to regulate it by using the brain and the body.

My life started to align with my goals and vision for myself when I decided to define happiness on my own terms and find what motivates me to get out of bed every morning.

I really needed to dig deep and understand what gave my life value and meaning, and I had to cultivate the courage to step outside my comfort zone to give myself the life I deserve to have.

Courage is not something that falls into our laps; its something that we build brick by brick and one step at a time.

The more you do this work, the more you notice the dance between grief and growth. We do not evolve without going through transition and loss.

Healing is a deeply complex experience because reality is hard to face sometimes, and we find ourselves playing tug-of-war with denial and truth. In the end, acknowledging and accepting truth is what brings us closer to ourselves.

**Don't fight change when it approaches. **

Do the uncomfortable work of leaning into it.

Limiting ourselves to just one way of being is how we stifle growth and it puts blinkers over our eyes that stop us from seeing the different ways and purpose and meaning can manifest day -to-day.
